Make it possible to add an image to a Plone site and have the EXIF and IPTC metadata extracted. This metadata is very useful to photographers and those that manage image libraries.

Motivation

The default image content type that comes with Plone is very basic. It only knows what its mimetype is, but no other metadata is stored with the object. We would like to decorate an image object with additional metadata that is extracted from the binary file itself. This will let us do more interesting things with the images, such as sort and search them by photographer, by location, by camera used, etc.

Proposal

Further develope the Plone4ArtistsImage product that was started at the Plone4Artists sprint in Boston. There are several environmental organizations that are looking to use this product for geotagging of photos.
