Online video guide The Daily Reel has raised a seed round in the high six figures from Boston’s Prism VentureWorks. The LA-based start-up was launched last fall and had 200,000-plus uniques in March 2007, according to co-founder and CEO Jeff Stern. Movie producer Jamie Patricof is co-founder and president. The ad-supported site’s primary role is sorting through myriad online video for users; it’s also helping new talent break through the clutter and reach industry execs.

The site is powered by the Plone4Artists VideoEmbed and Plone4Artists RevverVideo products, created by Alec Mitchell, and contributed to the Plone4Artists project. The site also features ratings of videos, commenting and top ten lists.

The Plone4ArtistsVideo Embed tool lets you embed videos on your Plone site, that are hosted on YouTube, Google Video, Blip.tv, and a dozen other video sharing sites. This places the burden of storing and serving the videos onto these other providers, and lowers your overall bandwidth costs significantly.

Most of these services also offer transcoding services, so you can upload a video in Quicktime and it will be automatically converted to Flash FLV.
